8115 Physics 1, Part 2: Electrical Engineering (EEng), WS2023/24

Course: 8115 Physics: Mechanics, Electricity and Magentism, WS2023/24, Part 2: “Electrical Engineering”
Course ID: 8115_2 (part of 8115)
(Old Course Number: EE_1.08)

Structure of 8115 (aka EE_1.08) Physics: Mechanics, Electricity and Magnetism

We group the topics “electricity” and “magnetism” together under the term electrical engineering.
This course consists of two course parts:

  1. Mechanics (8115_01) and
  2. Electrical Engineering (8115_02).

The two course parts are conducted separately by two lecturers.

Course Part General Topic Abbreviation Course ID Lecturer
Part 1 Mechanics Mech 8115_1 Dr. Irmgard Buder
Part 2 Electrical Engineering EEng 8115_2 Clein Sarmiento

Exam and Grading

The two course parts form one module with one exam.

You will pass the module with 50 points in total.

The scores are distributed as follows:

Part Written / Lab Max Achievable Points
Mech written exam 50
EEng written exam 40
EEng lab exercises 10
Max total 100

Examples:

Examples for Points Leading to Passed
Mech EEng EEng Lab Total Pass/Fail
50 0 0 50 pass
20 20 10 50 pass
0 40 10 50 pass
25 25 0 50 pass
30 15 5 50 pass

EEng Lecture

Every Thursday

* Lecture Room: 01 01 105
* Lecture Time: 08:15 - 9:45 and 10:00 - 11:30

Lecture

The lectures will be given live on campus. At least the EEng part will be streamed, recorded and uploaded for later offline access.
The links to the videos are shared on the Discord channel of this course.

Relationship with other Courses

The course EEng is used to lay the foundations for the following courses:

  1. (EE_2.03) Physics 2: Thermodynamics, Radiation, Heat Transfer,
  2. (EE_3.02) Energy Technology,
  3. (EE_4.03) Applied Measurement and Control
